Messi almost knocked off open top bus by low street cable during celebrations in Argentina

Celebrations are in full swing in Argentina as the country celebrates becoming Word Champion for the third time in its history, after defeating France in the final in Qatar.

Having recently returned to Argentina after their victory, the players have begun their open top bus tour of the streets of Argentina to celebrate the historic achievement with the thousands of ecstatic fans, all desperate to catch a glimpse of their World Cup heroes in the flesh.

But disaster almost struck when the several players including Messi, di Maria, de Paul and Paredes were almost knocked off the bus by a low hanging street cable.

The players had positioned themselves on the back of the bus and in the heat of the joyous celebrations, with the distraction of thousands of fans screaming their names, they failed to see the dangerously low cable. It was only at the very last second that they managed to duck under it.

Fortunately, they weren’t dragged off the back of the bus, but midfield maestro Leandro Paredes did have his hat knocked off his head. It was a major relief for both the players and the fans watching on.

The Argentine government declared a bank holiday on Tuesday to allow fans to enjoy celebrations across the country.

The scenes at the country’s iconic Obelisk in Buenos Aires were incredible, with over a million supporters reported to be present.
